Cheers.

I don't want to post any spoilers, but it isn't in reference to Ricky Jay. It comes up in the airport scene nearer the end of the movie.

Cracked out of turn is an old fashioned term. Chances are Mamet read it in The Big Con by David Maurer which, as I'm sure you know, is the book that every screenwriter turns to first when they want legit con man lingo (from American in the 1930s)

"Crumb The Play" is not a con artist term (as far as I know) and generally just means, screwed up.

From memory, Mike doesn't say it when he realises he is being conned. but when the mark wises up to the scam. Ricky Jay accidentally 'crumbs the play' and ruins the scam....or does he?

Oh, and I have a question for you, having just watched House of Games.

The main con man, Mike realises he is being conned and says: "You see, in my trade, this is called - what you did - you cracked out of turn. Huh? You see? You crumbed the play."

I've never heard "crumbed the play" before. Is it a real expression, or one made up by the author?

You know that the Talented Mr Ripley is sort of a remake of the 1960 French movie "Plein Soleil"?
Check it out.

I just watched The Hustler, based on your recommendation (and that I enjoyed The Colour of Money.)

Meh. It didn't hook me, I am afraid.
